Life in jail for raping a little boy

Parents trusted him with their children because he always carried a bible and would often read to children and explain bible stories.

It all changed when this convicted rapist from Springs outside of Johannesburg raped a six year old boy after an impromptu bible study session with other children at his shack.

The horrific event unfolded on April 6 2017, when the trusted 37-year old saw the victim and his friends playing soccer at Duduza Church and called them to his shack.

The rapist was reading bible passages to the group there.

The victim was left behind when his friends left, giving the rapist a chance to attack the child.

NPA spokesperson for North Gauteng region said: “When the minor got home that afternoon, he told his mother about what had happened.

“The mother called the police.

“The man was arrested later that night after the minor identified him and has been in detention since.”

On Friday the rapist was sentenced to 25 years in jail at the Springs Regional Court.

State prosecutor Advocate Adele Erasmus convinced the court that the rapist deserved a life sentence, saying the traumatic effects of sexual abuse are arguably the most complex and pervasive in terms of impact on the child’s life.

At least 116 cases of rape are opened with the South African police everyday resulting in over 42,000 rapes cases recorded in the 2019/2020 SAPS crime stats report.
