Let them eat grease: Governor’s proudest achievements are pizza and fried chicken outlets

South African politicians take note: if you have no accomplishments to brag about you can take a leaf out of the book of a Nigerian governor.

Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State in Nigeria, shocked viewers after he was asked on Channels TV to list his proudest achievements since taking office six years ago.

The interviewer opened the questions with: “Let’s talk about what you have done for the people of Abia State in the last six years.”

Ikpeazu replied: “To say that Abia is not working, today in Abia you have Dominos, you have Chicken Republic, you have … uhhhh … marketplace …”

That’s right. After six years in office, Ikpeazu said his landmark achievements were chicken and pizza.

Nigeria’s social media users (at least those who still can use social media) have spent the past week reeling from Ikpeazu’s unfortunate TV interview.

Governor Ikpeazu was trying to give examples of what the development of infrastructure in Abia has achieved, but couldn’t think of anything else to mention.

But one would hope that the governor can list some slightly more inspiring achievements than pizza.
