The grade 8 learner broke his leg after being run over by a teacher at his school.
In return, the teacher offered Sibongiseni Jokoze a R250 bribe and failed to report the incident to the boy’s family.
Now, Sibongiseni’s family is accusing her of not being remorseful since the incident.
Sibongiseni was allegedly injured within the premises of OR Tambo High School in Dennilton, Sekhukhune on the first day of term on 26 July.
Since the incident, he has been forced to miss many classes because of the excruciating pains in his left leg which had to be covered with a plaster cast.
Even after the cast was removed, Sibongiseni is forced to walk two kilometres to school using crutches.
According to Sibongiseni’s mother, Clara, he was standing still in a queue to be vaccinated when the teacher, who is said to be a learner driver, drove into him.
Clara said the teacher has never shown any remorse since she fractured her son’s leg.
“I was informed by one of the learners, who told me that my son has been run over by a car at school. When I arrived, I was told that he had been taken to Philadelphia hospital by an ambulance. No one from the school bothered to accompany my child to the hospital.”
She said she was approached by someone at the hospital who told her that everything was under control.
“The person advised me not to open a police case and promised that he will assist me with Road Accident Fund claims. That person is nowhere to be found and now I am struggling to fill in the forms.”
Clara is now seeking justice for her son but doesn’t know where to start.
“I need assistance in this matter. I want to report this teacher to the police so that she can pay for what she did. I am now stuck with RAF document forms but I don’t know how to complete them,” she said.
Tidimalo Chuene, spokesperson for the department of education in the province, said the matter should be handled by the police even if it happened within school premises.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the spokesperson for the Limpopo police has advised the family to open a case of attempted murder at the Dennilton police station.
