After having her name dragged through the mud by her own father in a video shared widely on social media, amapiano star DJ Lady Du still wants to fix things with him.

The uZuma YiStar hitmaker’s father, another musician who performs as DJ Choc, had recorded himself replying to claims on social media by Lady Du that she grew up poor.

“I don’t know what Lady Du is talking about when she says she grew up poor. I worked hard and did everything for her in the world,” said DJ Choc in the video, which spread like wildfire on social media over the weekend.

“She then went and hoed around and ate money with all these men and she continues to spend money on these men,” he moaned.

“She did not grow up poor. She had everything she needed. She is who she is because of me. Today you see me as a piece of shit but she can go around telling people she grew up poor.”

Despite this scathing attack from her father, Lady Du took the higher ground and responded by stressing her love for him.

She also told TshisaLive that the angry exchange was all just a big misunderstanding.

“I experienced depression in 2021. I lost everything that I had. I was out of home and didn’t want to bother him with my stress and stuff. It was a motivational post. It had nothing to do with me saying I grew up poor,” Lady Du said.

“Somebody misread my post and went and told my dad that I said I didn’t have this and that [growing up]. I’ve never in my life said I was poor, and that I can vouch on God.”

Meanwhile Lady Du, who says she has not seen the video of her father yet, suspects that a third person had a hand in infuriating DJ Choc.

“My dad doesn’t have social media so I think somebody saw my post and went to ask him when that happened,” she said, adding that she wants this matter to be settled with the family elders present.

“I tried to speak to him. I sent him a message. He’s hurting and I want to get to the point and find out what the problem is.”
