Pressure is mounting on KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala and the ANC to take action against the Health MEC and other MPLs who were caught on camera flouting Covid-19 regulations.
Footage of KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane and her friends partying without masks and dancing without observing social distancing emerged on social media platforms yesterday.
Among the attendees were Member of Parliament, Zinhle Cele; KZN Health Communications Director Ntokozo Maphisa and many others.
IFP MPL Ncamsile Nkwanyane said the visuals are a testimony of their complete disregard for the rule of law, as well as the safety of the public.
“This is the most unfortunate incident that occurred at the height of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic with new cases escalating daily. As we speak, KZN has recorded more than 3,000 cases of new daily infections,” said Nkwanyane.
She called upon the ANC leadership in the province to institute harsh disciplinary measures against the MEC and other ANC officials in the video.
The DA’s Zwakele Mncwango said he has written a letter to Zikalala to institute an investigation.
MEC Simelane has since apologized and claimed that they didn’t wear their masks because they were eating.
