- Social grant beneficiaries who ignore official review notices or fail to submit required documents on time risk having their payments suspended.
- The South African Social Security Agency has changed November payment dates, with grants under review scheduled for 5 November if beneficiaries still qualify.
Millions of South Africans who depend on social grants have been warned that they could lose access to their payments if they ignore important notices.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says beneficiaries must check their grant status, keep their personal details updated and respond to review requests.
Here are five things every grant beneficiary needs to know:
Ignoring a review notice could stop your money:
Sassa has warned that beneficiaries who fail to respond to official grant review notices could have their payments suspended.
Anyone asked to undergo a review must submit the required documents within the time given.
“Failure to comply with a review notice may result in the suspension of grant payments, in accordance with applicable legislation and procedures,” the agency said.
The reviews help Sassa make sure grants go to people who still qualify and prevent fraudulent payments.
You can check your grant status on WhatsApp:
Beneficiaries do not have to wait for a text message from Sassa to find out whether their grants are under review.
They can send “Hi” on WhatsApp to 082 601 0111.
The service allows people to check their grant status, apply for grants and access other services, including eLife Certification.
This means beneficiaries can get important information without necessarily visiting a Sassa office.
Changing your cellphone number could cost you:
Sassa says beneficiaries must update their personal information whenever their circumstances change.
This includes cellphone numbers, home addresses, marital status and financial circumstances.
People who change their cellphone numbers without informing Sassa risk missing important messages about their grants.
Missing a review notice could lead to payments being suspended if beneficiaries fail to respond.
November grant payment dates have changed:
Sassa has confirmed new payment dates for November 2026 because of arrangements linked to the local government elections.
The payment dates are:
Older persons’ grants: 30 October 2026
Disability grants: 2 November 2026
Children’s grants: 3 November 2026
Grants under review: 5 November 2026
Beneficiaries whose grants are under review will only receive payments on 5 November if their reviews confirm they still qualify.
Sassa says these changes apply only to November 2026.
Do not believe every message about grants:
Sassa has urged beneficiaries to get information from its official communication channels.
The agency says payment dates from December 2026 to March 2027 will remain as previously announced.
A new payment schedule for the 2027/2028 financial year will be announced through official platforms.
Beneficiaries must also remember that keeping their grant information correct is their responsibility.
Anyone who receives a review notice should respond within the required period to avoid putting their payments at risk.
