Celani Sikhakhane brings you the latest KwaZulu-Natal news.

Edgewood – Students from the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Edgewood Campus turned the defeat of the ANC-aligned student body Sasco into a moving funeral. The event brought high emotions to those who celebrated the victory of the EFF Student Command – there was even a coffin with ANC and Sasco colours. The funeral service was addressed by students who understand how funerals and church services are conducted. This comes after Monday’s announcement of the Student Representative Council results that saw Sasco losing many seats to the EFF.

Pinetown – Stock theft criminals ran for their lives after their truck full of meat was stopped in Pinetown. Police were patrolling the areas around Pinetown when they saw the truck with meat believed to be from stolen cattle. The occupants of the truck decided to run away and left the truck stranded – meat and all.

UThukela – Chairperson of the IFP in uThukela, Mbuzeleni Cyril Mkhize, has finally been elected as the deputy mayor of uThukela District Municipality after a year of delays to fill the vacancy. The post was left vacant after the EFF decided last year in February to recall all of its councillors after their divorce from the IFP in KZN. Mkhize is expected to be inaugurated on Wednesday in the Ladysmith town hall.

EThekwini – Vagrants of the Nyaope community settled back into their spots in Albert Park soon after 100 of them were removed by a joint operation of the SAPS, Durban Metro Police and the Office of the Premier on Monday. The vagrants were seen in numbers sitting in plastic tents at the park where the eThekwini Community Church used to have its marquee for church services.

Pietermaritzburg – Residents of uMsunduzi local municipality are shocked after seeing a video of municipal staff members from the Parks department stealing and selling diesel to motorists. They were caught red-handed by a provincial government official, who captured it on video to make sure that the incident gets the attention of relevant authorities.
