Celani Sikhakhane brings you the latest KwaZulu-Natal news.

Ulundi – A grader, a heavy-duty machine belonging to the Ulundi Municipality, has been found in KwaMashu township, north of Durban. The expensive machine was taken from the municipality in northern KZN — a journey of more than three hours by car. It’s unclear how long the journey took, as graders move very slowly since they are made for fixing rural dirt roads.

Durban – A 41-year-old woman died after reportedly setting herself on fire at Clairwood Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal. The fire destroyed an isolation ward and spread to a nearby ward, forcing 23 patients to evacuate. Firefighters controlled the blaze, and no other injuries were reported. The incident is under investigation.

Empangeni – Lightning has killed a Mgezeni High School pupil in eMpangeni, near Richards Bay. Thobani Sikhakhane died instantly when struck while walking with a fellow student, who survived the strike.

KwaMaphumulo – People have fled their homes after 30 elephants invaded villages in KwaMaphumulo, northern KZN. Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife reported that the elephants escaped from a private game reserve and moved through KwaMaphumulo and eSidakaneni near Ulundi on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Inanda – Police Minister Senzo Mchunu promised tough action against criminals in Durban townships during the launch of the Provincial Integrated Safer Festive Season Campaign. He was joined at Dr JL Dube Stadium by KZN Premier Thami Ntuli, eThekwini Deputy Mayor Zandile Myeni, and top police officials Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Major General Fanie Masemola.
