Margate: A 44-year-old female public prosecutor is one of 54 motorists arrested for drinking and driving over the weekend. The prosecutor was nabbed at 23h01 while driving on the R620 Marine Drive in Margate, Port Shepstone.
In a separate operation, two SAPS police officers and a taxi driver (who was overloaded with 24 passengers) were arrested last night for drinking and driving.
This has angered KZN Transport MEC Siboniso Duma, who questioned the behaviour of law enforcement officers and those in the legal fraternity when it comes to drinking and driving on public roads.
Nquthu: The Nquthu Regional Court has sentenced a 29-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of a woman in September 2023 in the Mondlo area. On the evening of the incident, the complainant had spent time with her friends and was returning home when she met the accused on the way. He asked if he could walk with her as he was going in the same direction, and since she recognised him (she had seen him in the area), she agreed. Along the way, he accused her of stealing his cellphone, which she disputed. He then assaulted her with his fists, causing her to fall to the ground, and he raped her twice. Before he could rape her for the third time, the complainant suggested that they go to her house, as there was no one at home.
Durban: The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has hailed the successful completion and reopening of new additional lanes of the N3 between Ashburton and Cato Ridge as “a clear demonstration of the ANC-led government’s ability to deliver on its promises”. The ANC says the completion of the new lanes, which is part of the capacity improvement of the N3/N2, marks a paradigm shift in delivering world-class infrastructure and positioning KwaZulu-Natal as a strategic logistics and economic hub.
