Pietermaritzburg: The NFP leadership and expelled member Mbali Shinga are expected to file their argument papers in court on Friday as the fight over a KZN Legislature seat intensifies.
Shinga dragged her party leadership to the Pietermaritzburg High Court to block the swearing in of NFP President Ivan Barnes as her replacement. She was expelled from the NFP after being found guilty of refusing to follow the party’s instruction to vote with the MKP for the removal of KZN Premier Thami Ntuli. She then took the matter to court to block her removal from the Legislature. The court instructed both sides to file their heads of arguments on Friday, 19 June.
The NFP has accused Shinga and her backers of secretly registering a new political party while continuing to destabilise the NFP.
Durban: Police fired stun grenades and rubber bullets at Malawian nationals at Sherwood Hall on Wednesday after men refused to be transferred to the Lindela Repatriation Centre in Gauteng instead of being bussed directly home to Malawi.
The crowd pelted police with stones and bottles in protest. The government says the transfer is necessary because Sherwood Hall has swelled beyond capacity at more than 10 000 people, and men facing formal deportation proceedings must be processed through Lindela’s court infrastructure. The Department of Home Affairs found at least 1 876 people at the site are undocumented or in violation of immigration law.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC Siboniso Duma said the province has mobilised an emergency response to manage the crisis. The Malawian government is still appealing for donations to fund the repatriation operation.
Nkandla: Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla claims that MKP leaders are fighting the party’s youth leaders for inviting her to deliver a keynote address at the Youth Day Rally held on Tuesday.
Duduzile made the revelations after publicly claiming last week that those who have tried her in the party have not survived. Her comments come amid reports that MKP Secretary General Sibonelo Nomvalo is facing internal forces pushing for his expulsion. Nomvalo has been in the position for three months following the expulsion of Floyd Shivambu.
