Mpangeni: The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) blocked the ANC from accessing a community hall to host their regional memorial lecture in remembrance of their fallen comrades. This happened on Saturday at KwaSokhulu, outside Mpangeni village, where the ANC was turned away at the last minute from KwaSikhangane Hall after finding the venue occupied by MKP members.

ANC National Executive Committee member Senzo Mchunu said that what the MKP did to them was totally unacceptable.

The ANC eventually held the memorial lecture for Samuel Msweli and Mike Mthethwa at another venue, away from where the MKP had blocked them.

KwaDukuza: A 37-year-old man, Methew Reece, has been remanded in police custody after appearing at the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 3 October 2025. He faces charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

During September 2025, members of Ilembe Crime Intelligence gathered information about an individual suspected of being in possession of unlicensed firearms. After employing various strategies, the information was verified as positive. A search and seizure warrant was applied for and subsequently granted by the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court.

Eshowe: The Eshowe Regional Court has sentenced a 38-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of a 19-year-old woman in March 2022. The complainant rented a room at the accused’s homestead, along with other learners, as they were attending a nearby school.

On the evening of the offence, the complainant was alone in her room when the accused went there, requesting that she charge his Bluetooth speaker.

At some point, she asked him to leave, and he refused. He threatened her with a pair of scissors and instructed her to undress. He raped her twice before leaving the room.

The next morning, the complainant went to a neighbouring house asking for assistance, and they contacted her mother.

The court heard that the incident had adversely affected the complainant, as she often fell ill following the incident and eventually passed away.
