Umlazi – The Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) has made history after it appointed a female Vice-Chancellor and Principal – a first since its inception in 1979. This week academics, students and family members gathered for the inauguration of Professor Nokuthula Sibiya at a moving ceremony marked by celebrations and dancing. Professor Sibiya has been described as an inspiration to young township girls and married women alike, having broken barriers to rise to the highest echelons of academia. She said: “It’s hard as a makoti (bride) to further your studies because you have to sacrifice everything while making sure that your family doesn’t feel neglected.”

Pietermaritzburg – The future of the Ingonyama Trust Board, accused of disrespecting King Misuzulu KaZwelithini as its chairperson, is in tatters. This comes after reports that the king has instructed Land Reform minister Mzwanele Nyhotso to disband the board, and voiced his dissatisfaction with CEO Vela Mngwengwe. The board has been accused of failing to welcome King Misuzulu as the new chair after he fired Inkosi Thanduyise Mzimela.

Durban – President Cyril Ramaphosa met with the KZN Executive Committee for the first time in Durban on Wednesday night after it tried to collapse the Government of Provincial Unity. This was over issues with King Misuzulu KaZwelithini’s prime minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi. The meeting was attended by former ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa, who has just been acquitted by the court after accusations of corruption. The president had a working dinner with KZN PEC and NEC members at Coastlands Hotel. Said ANC provincial chair Siboniso Duma: “We will sharpen our programme of action and commit to double our efforts to restore the hope of our people in the ANC as instrument for liberation of all.”
