Scottburgh: Road Traffic Inspectorate Police have arrested the driver of a Ferrari who was caught speeding at 208 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the N2 in Park Rynie. He appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court on Monday for the following charges: speeding, failing to display number plates and failing to display a licence disc. To top it all, he had an outstanding warrant of arrest, for which he paid R5,100.00 on top of his bail of R3,000. He will reappear in court with his attorney on 16 March 2026.
Durban: ActionSA notes the unveiling of the 9-metre bronze statues honouring former President Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo at Moses Mabhida Stadium, presided over by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
“While we recognise and respect the immense contribution of these liberation stalwarts to South Africa’s democracy, we strongly oppose the decision by the ANC-EFF-IFP coalition in eThekwini to allocate R22 million toward this project at a time when the municipality is facing severe financial strain,” said ActionSA.
The party said that the City reportedly has only 17 days’ cash in hand, a clear indication of liquidity pressure and poor financial management.
Cornubia: On Friday, 27 February 2026, police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested a 42-year-old suspect in Cornubia for extortion. It is alleged that in January 2026 the suspect called a security company owner and demanded an undisclosed amount of money, threatening that his security guards would be killed. The security company owner did not comply with the demands and reported the matter at the Durban Central Police Station.
During the same month of January, three security guards employed by the same security company were killed. The threatening phone calls to the security company owner persisted. The owner of the security company subsequently deposited the money requested by the extortionist. Members from Crime Intelligence gathered information on the suspect’s whereabouts. The intelligence was relayed to the Provincial Task Team as well as the Durban Metropolitan Police Tactical Team to operationalise.
The team pounced on the suspect in Cornubia, where he was arrested and subsequently charged with extortion. He will appear at the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. Investigations into the three murder cases involving security guards are ongoing.
