Pietermaritzburg: The Pietermaritzburg High Court has reserved judgment in the case against the eThekwini Municipality over its sewage crisis. This comes after the DA leadership took the matter to the High Court on Friday.
DA caucus leader in eThekwini, councillor Thabani Mthethwa, said that this case is not just about infrastructure. “It is about protecting the rights of residents who are forced to live with the health and environmental consequences of raw sewage flowing into their communities, rivers and coastline. It is about restoring dignity, accountability and service delivery to the people of eThekwini.”
Durban: KZN MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, has announced that his department will channel R1.7 billion to build over 1 000 houses in Durban for flood victims.
The announcement was made on Monday at the KZN Legislature by MEC Duma. He revealed that the flood victims’ houses will be built in Cornubia, near uMhlanga, north of Durban.
KwaMaphumulo: A suspect was shot and fatally wounded in a shoot-out with police in the Okhalweni area of KwaMaphumulo, north of KZN, on Sunday afternoon, 27 July 2025.
Police in KZN said they acted on intelligence about a man who was in possession of a firearm and driving a vehicle in the Maphumulo CBD.
“Intelligence was operationalised and the identified vehicle was found parked along the road at Okhalweni. When police approached the vehicle, they found two passengers inside, but the driver was nowhere to be found.
“When the driver came back, he noticed police at his vehicle and turned back. Police gave chase and the suspect opened fire towards the police. In self-defence, police returned fire and during the shoot-out the suspect was shot and fatally wounded,” said police.
