Sihle Mavuso presents the latest news from KwaZulu-Natal.

Ladysmith – IFP councillor Lindani Ximba of Ntabamhlophe in Estcourt threatened a naked protest in front of the IFP-run Uthukela District Municipality offices to demand water services for his ward. On Tuesday, Ximba dressed as a woman and protested alone. His protest seems to have worked as the municipality said it will introduce a contractor on Thursday to build a water scheme for the community.

Newcastle – The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party will contest the upcoming Ward 28 by-election in Newcastle. Led by Jacob Zuma, the party has fielded Mesuli Mabaso against Shukela Thwala of Team Sugar South Africa. Thwala won the ward in November 2021, beating candidates from the IFP and ANC.

Stanger – Bhekinkosi Mtolo, the ANC’s KZN secretary, admitted to creating the ballpoint voting system used during the KwaZulu-Natal legislature elections. The IFP-ANC-DA-NFP alliance took power utilizing this system, which the MK party criticized for breaching voting secrecy. Mtolo confessed his involvement during a closed meeting with his party at KwaDukuza Local Municipality.

eThekwini – The DA in the eThekwini Municipality has requested an urgent meeting with the city manager, mayor, Umgeni-Uthukela Water Board, and eThekwini Water and Sanitation due to ongoing water cuts affecting Ntuzuma, Lindelani, Phoenix, Kloof, Hillcrest, Glenwood, Chatsworth, uMlazi, Amanzimtoti, and Folweni.

Dundee – The town is preparing for three days of festivities with the annual Dundee July, similar to the Durban July. Starting with a parade on Friday, the main event on Saturday, and after-parties on Sunday, the event is expected to boost the local economy with thousands of visitors.
