Durban – Ukhozi FM programme manager Sibongi Ngcobo has resigned amid reports of frustrated co-workers over her relationship with maskandi artist Khuzani Mpungose. On Wednesday a Zulu-language weekly newspaper claimed that staff members were called in by the SABC regional executive to announce the resignation. Allegations are that Ngcobo changed the station’s New Year’s Eve Song of the Year specifications to benefit Mungose, while fans had expected a different song and a different winner in Cross Over 2024.
Point – KZN Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has ordered an immediate investigation and disciplinary steps to be taken against a police officer who was seen assaulting a man in a video that has gone viral. In the video, shot at the Durban’s Point area, a police officer can be seen assaulting a person who does not seem to pose any danger. Another officer can also be seen trying to calm his colleague. Mkhwanazi said that police officers are not above the law and a police uniform does not give officers any powers to disregard the law. He said that if the man in the video had committed a crime, police should have either detained or arrested him, instead of committing the crime of assault.
UKZN – The surgical skills laboratory at the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has received a generous donation of cutting-edge endoscopic surgery equipment valued at about R4-million. Facilitated by the UKZN Foundation, the donation from the tech company Karl Storz is set to revolutionise the training of future surgeons. Storz has a long-standing commitment to advancing medical education and enhancing surgical skills. This latest donation aligns with their ongoing efforts to support academic institutions and training hospitals across South Africa.
Durban – Eskom in KZN is urging prepaid electricity customers to recode their meters by 24 November. After this deadline, meters will no longer accept electricity tokens unless they are updated to Key Revision Number 2. Failure to recode by the deadline will prevent customers from loading electricity tokens and their meters will not operate. The do-it-yourself process requires customers to purchase credit tokens from authorised vendors, receiving two sets of 20-digit codes to enter into their meters for the update. Customers are urged to check their meters first before reporting on Alfred, the Eskom Chatbot, at www.alfred.eskom.co.za/chatroom/ or visiting the nearest Eskom offices. To check the meter, customers need to enter 1844 6744 0738 4377 2416.
