Durban: The eThekwini Municipality has announced its commitment to host the prestigious Metro FM Music Awards, with a whopping R25 million investment over the next three years, after the awards were abruptly cancelled in 2023 by President Cyril Ramaphosa due to public outrage triggered by ActionSA in KZN.
The City announced that it has signed an agreement to be the host city of the popular Metro FM Music Awards, with an investment of R25 million over the next three financial years (2025/26, 2026/27, and 2027/28).
In 2023, the then MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Siboniso Duma, was forced to withdraw from hosting the Metro FM Awards, which were set to cost taxpayers R3 million just for VIP gift bags.
Vryheid: Stock theft is still rife in the Zululand District, especially in Vryheid.
According to police, a significant number of stock theft cases were reported and addressed by the SAPS in May 2025 alone. Multiple arrests were made, including that of a police constable, for cattle theft. Recovered livestock were found and suspects taken into custody, with some appearing in the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court.
Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality: The ANC has welcomed the renaming of the Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality after their struggle stalwart, History Johannes Passfour Phumani Phungula, who was described by the party as a fearless freedom fighter and servant of the people.
Throngs of people paraded along Margaret Street, with ANC KZN Provincial Task Team Convenor Jeff Radebe, ANC KZN Spokesperson Fanle Sibisi, and ANC Harry Gwala Chairperson Zamo Nxumalo leading from the front to pay tribute to Phungula.
