KZN news bites: Cash heist suspect found dead near Tugela River

Nkandla: A suspect who injured himself while setting up explosives during a cash-in-transit robbery at the Kranskop CBD in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday was found dead inside an abandoned vehicle along a gravel road near the Tugela River towards Nkandla on Tuesday. A cash-in-transit vehicle was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and three security guards were robbed of their firearms. Four vehicles were also reportedly hijacked and were used as getaway vehicles by the suspects. The suspects also fired shots towards a police station during the robbery, however no police officer or any member was injured. A manhunt for more suspects, who were believed to be at least 12 in number, is underway.

Durban: The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Thamsanqa Ntuli, has welcomed the resignation of the board members of Ithala SOC Limited, a subsidiary of the Ithala Development Finance Corporation, as received and processed during the recent Annual General Meeting of the institution. The Premier emphasised that these resignations must be understood within the broader context of the decisive interventions being undertaken by the Provincial Government to stabilise and reposition Ithala as a credible, resilient and forward-looking financial institution that serves the developmental aspirations of the people of KwaZulu-Natal. He noted that government has a clear appreciation of the governance, compliance and operational challenges that have confronted the institution over time, and is now firmly focused on implementing practical and sustainable solutions that will restore stability and rebuild public confidence.

Nongoma: His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini will be sending a delegation known as the Ingonyama Trust Royal Panel to meet with 13 out of the 18 political parties represented in Parliament. This interaction will be aimed at conveying His Majesty’s proposals on the Ingonyama Trust which will ultimately require Parliament to make changes to the Ingonyama Trust Act of 1994 as amended in 1997. The delegation will be led by the Traditional Prime Minister of the Zulu Nation, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, and includes chiefs, senior members of the royal family, academics and legal experts. The delegation has confirmed meetings with the ANC, DA, MK Party, EFF, IFP, ACDP, Bosa, ActionSA, Rise Mzansi, PAC, PA, FF Plus, ACDP and UDM. The meetings will take place over two days in Parliament on 22 and 23 April 2026.
