Celani Sikhakhane brings you KwaZulu-Natal’s latest news.
Durban: The KZN ANC and King Misuzulu kaZwelithini are clashing over the name change of the province. On Tuesday, the ANC KZN task team made it clear that this call is just a way to play with people’s emotions. The party says that anyone who wants the renaming of KZN and to drop the Portuguese name “Natal” must know that they will be subjected to the Constitution because it was part of the agreements during the negotiations that were held ahead of the first democratic government of this country. King Misuzulu kaZwelithini made this call during the commemoration of the battle of Isandlwana where he called for the province to be renamed as KwaZulu. He said the name Natal is a colonial name that doesn’t resonate with the people of the province.
Ugu District: KwaZulu-Natal Health Minister Nomagugu Simelane is leading the province’s high-impact Health Imbizo and Isibhedlela Kubantu outreach programme in uMzumbe, Ugu District, aimed at delivering essential healthcare services directly to communities. Isibhedlela Kubantu is a pioneering initiative designed to tackle socio-economic inequalities and persistent barriers to healthcare access, such as poverty, transportation challenges and affordability. Minister Simelane says that by bringing services closer to where people live, the programme also eases pressure on health facilities, reducing overcrowding and enabling health workers to serve more efficiently.
Manguzi: KZN Premier Thami Ntuli has expressed profound shock, sorrow and outrage following the tragic killing of three minor children in the Lulwane (Sikhemelele) area of Manguzi within the uMkhanyakude District. According to reports from the South African Police Service, the incident occurred on the night of 30 January 2026 and resulted in the untimely deaths of Kwanele Gumede, 15, Amanda Khumalo, 9, and Ayabonga Khumalo, 7. It is alleged that the children were killed by their father. Premier Ntuli described the incident as deeply disturbing, senseless and an unforgivable violation of the sanctity of life, particularly of children who depend on adults for love, safety and protection. The killing of innocent children, especially within the family environment that should serve as their safest space, has left the province devastated and in mourning.
