KZN news bites: 11 people in court for fraudulent driving licences in KZN

Durban: 11 people appeared in court for getting driving licences illegally. One examiner from the Department of Transport pleaded guilty. 

Transport MEC Siboniso Duma said the other accused are being processed with help from the Hawks. The case was announced on Friday.

Umhlali: Police have arrested six suspects who evaded arrest after shooting at officers on 28 March 2026. The suspects, wanted for serious crimes including murder, house robberies and business robberies, were traced and cornered in the Shayamoya area within the Umhlali policing precinct on 12 April 2026.


The suspects had been targeting victims in the Shayamoya, Nkobongo, Riet Valley and Itete areas. They were profiled by police after being linked to numerous crimes in the Umhlali area. During the 28 March 2026 shootout, three suspects were arrested. One of the six is wanted for the murder of a 52-year-old farmer who was robbed and killed at his home in Riet Valley. The victim’s uncle was also brutally stabbed during the incident.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 25, have appeared before the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court. Three were remanded in custody while the other three were released on bail. Police will continue investigating to determine whether the suspects are linked to other cases within the ILembe District Policing Precinct.

Scottburgh: The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the sentencing of Sbusiso Khumalo (39) and Sihle Bright Mnguni (42) to an effective 25 years’ direct imprisonment by the Scottburgh Regional Court. 

The two were convicted on two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances. On 9 September 2023, Khumalo and Mnguni robbed a spice shop in the Umzinto area on two separate occasions.
