Police in KwaZulu-Natal have started a search for suspects after seven family members were shot and killed on Wednesday night, 11 September.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has sent a special team to lead the investigation.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said officers arrived at the scene and found seven bodies in the living room.

“Neighbours reported that they heard gunshot and when they went to investigate they found that three women, a man and three children had been shot and killed,” he said.

The three women were aged 35, 38 and 55, the man was 48 and the children were aged five, 11 and 12.

The reason for the killings is not known, but it could be linked to a family dispute or business issues. The search for the suspects is ongoing.

The victims were reportedly seated on a couch and shot in the head.

Premier Thami Ntuli has called on the police to thoroughly investigate and find those responsible.

‘We are committed to ensuring the safety of everyone in KwaZulu-Natal. Our thoughts are with the families affected by this terrible event,’ said Ntuli.

Ntuli and the Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi paid a visit to the Khambule family on Thursday morning.

The gunmen are still on the run.
