Kruger Park day visits to resume after heavy rain

  • Visitors can enter through four southern gates from 19 January 2026 as Limpopo and Mpumalanga recover from heavy rain.
  • Tourists are advised to bring their own supplies, as shop stock is low and some park areas remain unsafe.

Day visits to the Kruger National Park will resume on Monday, 19 January 2026, after weeks of heavy rainfall forced closures across Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

South African National Parks (SANParks) confirmed that access to the park will reopen, but warned visitors to remain cautious, especially in areas still recovering from storm damage.

Gravel roads are the biggest concern, with some still damaged or unsafe. “Avoid using gravel roads where possible,” SANParks said.

Park shops are also running low on stock after supply trucks were unable to enter during the storms. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own essential items to avoid shortages.

Entry into the southern region will be allowed through these four gates:

  • Paul Kruger Gate
  • Numbi Gate
  • Malelane Gate
  • Phabeni Gate

The Crocodile Bridge Gate remains closed until further notice. The northern region of the park is still off imits due to several roads and bridges being washed away.

“We are monitoring the situation closely with disaster management,” said SANParks. “The safety of guests, staff and nearby communities remains our top priority.”

Tourists are urged to follow SANParks platforms and local traffic reports for further updates.
