Kolbe’s jaw injury threatens his participation in the Rugby World Cup

By Monday afternoon there still wasn’t any further information about Cheslin Kolbe’s jaw injury.

“The call on the field was that it was a suspected broken jaw, and that is not ideal,” Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber said after the third test between South Africa and Wales.

Nienaber said he wasn’t sure of the extent of Kolbe’s injury and would wait for the medical team to report back.

If Kolbe does have a broken jaw, he would probably miss the Rugby Championship which starts when the All Blacks play the Springboks at Mbombela on 6 August.

This match is the first of six matches that happen on consecutive weekends finishing on 24 September.

These matches are followed by matches against Ireland, France and England in November.

Depending on the extent of the injury, if Kolbe misses these matches, his participation in the World Cup could be in danger.
