The body of a 20-year-old man who was washed away last Saturday has been found in the Klip River in Olifantsvlei, south of Johannesburg.
Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) have confirmed the developments.
EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said their team and the SAPS Water Wing found the body not far from where another female body was found on Wednesday.
After an intense search in scorching weather, the body is believed to be the one that was swept away by a strong water current during a ritual ceremony with a traditional healer in the Klip River in Olifantsvlei on Saturday.
The search that took almost a week has finally yielded results.
Khumalo said the body has not yet been identified by his family.
Khumalo stressed the importance of taking precautionary measures when sangomas, pastors, and traditional healers perform their rituals.
“We urge the residents of Johannesburg to practice caution when performing ritual ceremonies in rivers and streams across all city regions,” she said.
This incident occurred almost a year after the tragedy of 15 church members who died on 3 December 2022. The church members were conducting a baptism ceremony when they drowned.
