King Misuzulu kaZwelithini had a big 50th birthday party attended by many traditional leaders.
The party started at his kraal, where new clan leaders were introduced.
Some leaders wanted to discuss their unhappiness with the choice of the so-called royal rebels as clan dispute mediators, but they decided to focus on enjoying themselves instead.
Later, King Misuzulu and his mother, Queen Thandi MaNdlovu, danced in a big tent.
King Misuzulu was born on 23 September 1974.
He began celebrating his birthday on Sunday, 22 September, at uMhlali Country Club in Ballito, starting with golf and then a private dinner.
On Saturday, some leaders wanted to discuss the appointment of Princes Mbonisi, Mathuba, and Vulindlela – the so-called “royal rebels” – to the clan dispute committee.
The three princes were chosen by the King’s Traditional Prime Minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, who is also the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance.
A leader told Scrolla.Africa: “The King arrived very late at the kraal for his birthday, and we decided not to talk to him about the ‘royal rebels’. We changed our minds and chose to focus on His Majesty’s birthday.”
At the King Shaka’s Day event last week, King Misuzulu said: “I always say my birthday is very special because it coincides with the passing of my great-grandfather, King Shaka kaSenzangakhona.”
Among the guests who attended Saturday’s party was African Bank CEO Kennedy Bhungane.
