·  King Misuzulu went ahead with installing Inkosi Mbuso Ngcobo despite lawyers warning him not to speak at public events.

·  Inkosi Ngcobo rejected a request from MK Party to attend the ceremony, saying it must not be used for politics.

King Misuzulu kaZwelithini is not stepping back from his royal duties, even as his claim to the Zulu throne is being challenged in court.

Over the weekend, he installed Inkosi Mbuso Ngcobo as leader of the Nyuswa Traditional Authority under the Umdoni Municipality near Port Shepstone on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

His public relations team confirmed that the king’s lawyers had warned him not to speak at any public gatherings while his legal battles continue. He is facing two court cases: one at the Constitutional Court brought by his half-brother Prince Simakade kaZwelithini, and another in the Pietermaritzburg High Court brought by the Mkhwanazi clan over the appointment of Iso leSilo in Mtubatuba.

But the king went ahead with the ceremony to officially install Inkosi Ngcobo.

The event almost became political when the uMkhonto weSizwe Party asked to pay a courtesy visit ahead of the installation. But Ngcobo rejected the visit.

In a letter to MK Party chief whip Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza, he said: “With all due respect, my coronation should never be used for a political campaign and a political party. On that note, please cancel your special visit as a political party.”

Inkosi Ngcobo is the recognised leader of the Nyuswa Traditional Authority. He also chairs the House of Traditional Leaders in the Ugu District.
