King Misuzulu KaZwelithini has commended political parties for engaging in a peaceful election process without the blood of innocent citizens being spilled.
His Majesty said that political parties conducted themselves in a very good manner during their campaigns and on election day last week.
The King was reacting to the election results for the first time as he had been out of the country in eSwatini when South Africans voted.
His statement was issued by his Traditional Prime Minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, on Monday.
King Misuzulu also applauded the Independent Electoral Commision for ensuring free and fair general elections.
“His Majesty calls upon law enforcement agencies to deal firmly with those who seek to cause instability and mayhem in the aftermath of election results,” said Buthelezi.
He said the King has called on izinduna in Gauteng and Durban hostels to report any attempt aimed at instigating violence and lawlessness.
Buthelezi said that the King is confident that all political leaders will commit themselves to respect the outcome of the elections and to play their part in promoting peace, development and stability.
The KwaZulu-Natal province will see a change of government for the first time since 2004, when the IFP lost power to the coalition government of ANC, UDM and the Minority Front of the late Amichand Rajbansi.
On Sunday KZN Premier Nomusa maDube-Ncube called on the incoming administration to go back to work for the people of KZN and live up to the promises that were made during election campaigns.
“The incoming administration has a solid foundation to build on which is to improve the lives of the people in this province,” she said.
