- King Misuzulu will marry his third wife Queen Nomzamo in a Shembe church ceremony on 26 January.
- This will be the King’s first traditional Zulu wedding, making it a historic moment for the Zulu nation.
King Misuzulu kaZwelithini will marry his third wife, Queen Nomzamo kaMyeni of the eMachobeni Royal Palace, in a Shembe church ceremony at the end of January.
Prince Simphiwe Zulu of kwaMinyamanzi, the King’s spokesperson, announced this on Tuesday.
“This is the most exciting announcement I am about to make. His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has instructed me to announce that he is getting married to his Queen Nomzamo kaMyeni.
“As you all know that they have chosen the Nazareth Baptist Church religion. The wedding will be held under the religious theme of the Shembe Church on 26 January,” said Prince Simphiwe.
Before the wedding, there will be a traditional uMkhehlo ceremony on 24 January. This is when the families exchange gifts.
The last time the Zulu nation saw a royal wedding like this was in July 2014. That’s when the late King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu married Queen Zola LaMafu from eSwatini at a ceremony in Ulundi that drew guests from around the world.
This wedding is special because it will be King Misuzulu’s first traditional Zulu marriage. Though he has two other wives, he hasn’t had a traditional Zulu wedding with either of them.
The King paid lobola for his first wife, Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela, and they registered their marriage at Home Affairs in Pretoria. They had the uMkhehlo ceremony but never completed the traditional Zulu wedding rites to inform the ancestors.
For his second wife, Queen Nozizwe laMakhubu from eSwatini, the King only paid lobola.
