King Misuzulu KaZwelithini is not happy with the KwaZulu-Natal government’s decision to fire his praise singer and senior cultural adviser, iNyosi Buzetsheni Mdletshe.

On Tuesday, the King released a statement through his traditional prime minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, after KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube said they could no longer afford to continue paying iNyosi Buzetsheni.

“His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has expressed his extreme displeasure in the disrespectful manner in which the KZN Government continues to treat him,” the statement said.

Buthelezi said iNyosi Buzetsheni, who started his duties with the late King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu in 1977, served as a spiritual advisor to the Zulu Kingdom.

Mdletshe is responsible for such important ceremonies as Umkhosi wokweShwama (First Fruits ceremony) and Ukuthelwa kwaManzi (cleansing rituals before a new traditional leader ascends the throne).

King Misuzulu has warned the provincial government that their unbecoming treatment of the Royal Family could anger the Zulu nation.

Professor Jabulani Maphalala, a senior historian from the University of Zululand, and Philani PG Mavundla, the mayor of uMvoti local municipality, and the founder and leader of the Abantu Batho Congress, released a joint statement in which they accused the provincial government of continued disregard for the Zulu nation.

They said that the ANC’s disrespectful treatment of the Zulu Kingdom is bigger than they thought and that one action that is evidence of this is the removal of a mural showcasing Zulu kings – from King Shaka kaSenzangakhona to King Misuzulu KaZwelithini – on Nicol Square Parkade between Pine and Commercial streets in Durban.
