- Kharishma, real name Melita Mogale, was seriously injured in a Polokwane crash on 31 October 2025 that killed driver Vincent Maphopha and a second passenger.
- Her family says three Basadi in Music Awards 2026 nominations for Wa Inama and Chokeslem are keeping her motivated through her recovery.
Kharishma is recovering. Her family says she has reached an advanced stage of healing after a crash in Polokwane last October left her seriously injured and killed two of the people she was travelling with.
Now, three award nominations are giving her something to work towards.
The family of the lekompo singer, whose real name is Melita Mogale, released a statement this week confirming she is receiving ongoing medical care and remains in good spirits. They said the nominations for the 2026 Basadi in Music Awards have played a direct role in motivating her recovery.
“The nominations for the Basadi in Music Awards encouraged her to work hard in her recovery process,” the family said.
“She is in good spirits and dedicated to her recovery.”
Kharishma is nominated in three categories. Her song Wa Inama is up for Song of the Year. Her video for Chokeslem is nominated for Best Music Video. She is also in contention for Dance Music Artist of the Year.
The crash happened on 31 October 2025 at the corner of Grobler and Magazyn streets in Polokwane. The driver of the vehicle, Vincent Maphopha, 23, died at the scene. A second passenger, a fellow artist and University of Limpopo student, died in hospital in November. Kharishma sustained serious injuries and has been out of public life since.
Her family confirmed she is not active on social media and asked fans to continue respecting her privacy. Updates will come through official channels when she is ready to return.
