Former Fees Must Fall Activist, Bonginkosi Khanyile, has been released from prison on a R5,000 bail after he was arrested last month for allegedly instigating violence and looting that rocked parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in July.
Khanyile, a staunch Jacob Zuma supporter was granted bail by the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning after weeks of postponements. He will go back to Gauteng and report at the Hillbrow Police Station.
His bail conditions prohibit him from using his Twitter account for the duration of the case.
He faces charges of incitement to commit public violence and two counts of convening a gathering in contravention of the Disaster Management Act.
Khanyile was seen on different media platforms calling for the release of Zuma from Estcourt Correctional Services.
He has joined the list of other instigators who have been released on bail. Among them are ‘Sphithiphithi Evaluator’ Zanele Majola and former UKhozi FM DJ Ngizwe Mchunu.
