Kelly Khumalo’s career slides downhill

Singer Kelly Khumalo’s career has taken a hit since the death of her ex-partner, Senzo Meyiwa, in 2014.

Recent allegations in the Pretoria High Court have linked her to the crime, which has led to a decline in bookings.

Despite her claims of innocence, the controversy has resulted in her being removed from several show lineups.

“After the startling revelations were made, the bookings shrunk,” a source revealed according to a report on Fakaza. “Promoters don’t want to touch her because they know what’s going on with the court case. Some of her bookings have been cancelled, because of this drama.

“I was booked at the same event with her, but I was shocked to find [out] that she wouldn’t be performing anymore because she was cancelled at the eleventh hour.”

The source said promoters don’t want to risk booking Khumalo until she is proven innocent.

“Remember that Senzo had a huge following, so they also don’t want to upset people,” he said.

Another source pointed out that Khumalo always made herself out to be the victim.

“She is stressed but doesn’t want to show it. She knows people want to see her [go] down because they’ve been throwing accusations at her for many years,” the source said.

Despite these setbacks, IOL reported this week that Khumalo has not let recent controversies stop her from working on a special project which has her fans excited.

She has announced the upcoming release of the deluxe version of her album, From A God to A King.

Meyiwa played as a goalkeeper and captain for both Orlando Pirates in the PSL and the South Africa national team. He was shot and killed at Khumalo’s Soweto home on 26 October 2014.
