Kelly Khumalo says absent dads must be called uncles

  • The singer said men who do not make real efforts to see their children are not fathers but sperm donors and must be called uncles.
  • She said she would rather be hated by her son than let rapper Jub Jub be part of his life after years of abuse allegations.

Kelly Khumalo slammed absent fathers in a Father’s Day message, saying men who skip out on parenting deserve to be called uncles, not dads.

The singer and reality TV star took to TikTok to criticise men who claim they want to be in their children’s lives but never make the effort.

Kelly, who has three children with three different fathers, said too many men only show up on social media but disappear in real life.

“They are sperm donors, not fathers,” she said. “If you haven’t been in a child’s life for many years, you are no longer the father. You’re the uncle.”

She added that the excuse, “the mother of my child doesn’t want me to see the child,” is no longer good enough.

Kelly has been outspoken about keeping her first child, Christian, away from his father, rapper Jub Jub. She accused him of abuse in the past and has said Christian will only decide for himself once he turns 18.

Even though Jub Jub has reportedly tried to reconnect, Kelly said she will not change her mind. “I’m happy with my son hating me later if it means protecting him,” she said.

She praised shared parenting with her current partner, calling him her “husband”. She made it clear they would raise their children together without help from absent fathers.

“We will father and mother our children. You will be the uncle,” she said.

Kelly is also the mother of Tingo, whose father was Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, and Luna, whom she reportedly shares with former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mthokozisi Yende.

Her message mirrors what she said on her Showmax series Life with Kelly Khumalo. In season three, she said: “I know a man who wants a relationship with his child when I see one. I will never stand in the way of that. Don’t disrespect me.”
