Despite being barred from performing at the Grammys on Sunday night, Kanye West still took home the award for Best Rap Song and for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
The US rapper had reportedly been barred from performing music from his recent album Donda due to “concerning online behaviour”. West has been accused of harassing his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, her new boyfriend Pete Davidson and comedian Trevor Noah.
Noah happened to be hosting the event, which was held in Las Vegas.
West was, however, still allowed to attend the event, as he was nominated for seven awards, including the award for Best Rap Album. That award was snatched up by Tyler the Creator with Call Me if You Get Lost.
But that did not stop West from reaching Jay Z’s record of 24 Grammy Awards. The two rap giants are tied at the top with 24 Grammys each after they both won the award for Best Rap Song “Jail”, which they collaborated on together.
Kanye took home the Best Melodic Rap Performance Grammy for the song “Hurricane”.
