The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) Judge President Mandisa Maya has accepted a nomination to be the country’s next deputy chief justice.

Maya was officially nominated for the position by President Cyril Ramaphosa in April.

She was previously recommended for the chief justice position by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in February but President Ramaphosa chose to appoint Justice Raymond Zondo.

The JSC said on Wednesday that Maya submitted all the required documents.

Members of the public are invited to make written submissions on Maya’s suitability for the appointment.

Deadline for submission is 26 May and Maya will be invited for a public interview on 20 June 2022.
