Joel Stransky cycles through pain to help kids see

  • Stransky and friends rode from Durban to Swakopmund to support the LumoHawk Foundation eye clinics.
  • The rugby legend crashed and got injured but refused to quit until the long race was finished.

Springbok legend Joel Stransky has given children a special gift this festive season.

He and his friends rode bicycles for 2,500km to raise money for eye care.

The mission was simple. They wanted to help children in poor schools get their eyes tested and receive glasses. This helps the little ones learn and play better.

The journey started in Durban and went through the Free State and Northern Cape. It ended in Swakopmund.

It was a very hard trip. Stransky crashed his bike and was badly hurt during the ride. Doctors told him he should stop.

But Stransky refused to give up. He knew that the pain was worth it to help the children.

‘To ride across Africa and finish with a 400km one-shot race seemed tough and hard,’ Stransky said, GoodThingsGuy reported.

He admitted that wheels crossed and he was the ‘poor soul’ who went down.

Despite the blood and injuries, the team successfully finished the Sea2See ride.

Stransky started the LumoHawk Foundation in 2013 to help disadvantaged children in South Africa.

Years later, he is still pushing his body to the limit to support others.

His ride ensures that many young students will start the new year seeing the world clearly.
