- Rand Water’s second maintenance phase runs from 07:00 to 19:00 on 17 July, affecting parts of Johannesburg and nearby municipalities.
- Mayor Dada Morero said the first phase, done between 29 May and 2 June, was completed successfully with no major problems.
Parts of Johannesburg and surrounding municipalities will go without water for 12 hours on 17 July. Bulk supplier Rand Water will carry out planned maintenance work from 7am to 7pm that day.
Mayor Dada Morero confirmed the dates, calling the work essential preventative maintenance on the infrastructure that supplies Johannesburg and nearby municipalities.
“On the 17th of July, our bulk supplier, Rand Water, will carry out the second and final phase of its planned maintenance from 7 in the morning to 7pm, a 12-hour period,” Morero said.
He said this is the second of two maintenance phases. The first ran from 29 May to 2 June and was completed without problems.
“This final phase is essential. It’s essential preventative work on the bulk infrastructure that supplies Johannesburg and surrounding municipalities,” Morero said.
Johannesburg Water has not yet named which specific areas will be affected. It has said it will provide alternative water supply, including tankers, to affected communities, and has promised updates on maintenance schedules closer to the date.
Residents are advised to store enough water for the 12-hour period and to check for updates from Johannesburg Water in the days before 17 July.
