North West Premier Job Mokgoro has already started packing up his office as the ANC is expected to announce a new premier soon.
Initially, the party was expected to sack Mokgoro on Monday but the ANC Interim provincial committee in North West said it would first meet with the party structures before dropping the axe on the 73-year-old politician.
This is expected to happen this week.
Hlomane Chauke, ANC MP and chairperson of the committee, said the name of the new premier would be announced after they have communicated with the top party structures.
“It is only now that we’re going to be interacting with the divisions of the upper structure from Luthuli House,” Chauke was quoted as saying.
“We’re still trying to resolve technical matters that we must conclude.”
Among the people interviewed for the position were current legislature speaker Suzan Dantjie, Finance MEC Motlalepule Rosho and IPC member Bushy Maape.
Mokgoro replaced Supra Mahumapelo, who was forced to resign in 2018 due to a number of issues, including lack of service of delivery.
At the time, the ANC believed Mokgoro would turn around the crisis-riddled province, which had seen a series of protests during Mahumapelo’s tenure.
Three years later, the ruling party thinks otherwise. Mokgoro has been accused of not taking orders from the party and now he is out of the door.
