Harry and Meghan have announced the birth of their second child, a girl who they’ve named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
The baby has been named “Lilibet” after Queen Elizabeth’s childhood nickname, but could she ever be queen like her great grandmother?
Lilibet was born in the US, where Harry, Meghan and their eldest child, Archie, have been residing since they quit the royal family last year.
But despite this separation, dubbed “Megxit” by the press, Harry has retained his place in the line of succession.
This means that his children will also take their place in the line to the throne.
Lilibet is currently eighth in the queue, in between her brother Archie in seventh and the disgraced Duke of York, Prince Andrew.
A statement from the couple’s press secretary said: “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.
“Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11.40am in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California.
“She weighed 7lbs 11oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.”
According to a statement released by Buckingham Palace, the Queen is “delighted” by the news.
