A shocking intelligence report has revealed that police resources were used in the slaying of ANC councillor Sindiso Magaqa in 2017.
ANC members Thabiso Zulu and Les Stuta have always maintained that Magaqa’s death was politically motivated and that the police were involved.
Magaqa, a former ANC youth league secretary-general, was an ANC councillor in Umzimkhulu at the time of his death.
Reacting to the intelligence report, Stuta said he was not surprised.
“We have always said that high profile individuals and police were involved in Magaqa’s killing, but very few believed us. We are vindicated,” said Stuta, who is now also an ANC councillor in Umzimkhulu.
Zulu said the people who were arrested were not Magaqa’s killers.
He had previously given his evidence to law enforcement authorities and received death threats. At one point he was shot but survived.
According to Zulu, Magaqa was killed for standing against corruption during the revamping of the Memorial Hall in Umzimkhulu, which was set at R4 million but ballooned to more than R16 million.
According to the City Press, the intelligence report directly linked police to Magaqa’s death.
Magaqa was shot in a hail of bullets in his car with ANC councillors Jabulile Mzizi and Nonsikelelo Mafa, who survived.
Magaqa’s wife Gugu said all she wanted was to see his killers behind bars.
“I’ll only heal when the people who killed him are convicted and pay for their crimes,” she told Scrolla.Africa.
Gugu said it had been difficult for her, her children and Magaqa’s mother to move on.
“The healing process will only start when we see the people who killed him being arrested. For now, things are very difficult for us.”
Police Minister Bheki Cele’s spokesperson Lirandzu Themba did not respond to questions sent to her.
