It is a battle of the wounded as Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United go all out to ease their PSL woes when they clash at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Amakhosi are pushing to climb out of tenth position on the table after five successive games without a win.
That run includes four defeats, leaving the Soweto giants at risk of finishing the season out of the top eight.
It is a term in which even Chiefs fans have lost trust in their players, something midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala is aware of.
“It’s sad. It’s painful waking up every day and seeing people doubting you or not having trust in you, seeing people think that you are not a good player,” Shabalala told the media.
“Being in such a situation also teaches us how to be men. We are still young.”
However, with positive results in their last six matches, Amakhosi can salvage their season and finish the campaign in the top eight.
Chiefs’ opponents SuperSport are sitting on a nine-match winless streak in the league and are fifth in the standings.
“The atmosphere has been good in the camp even if we have not been getting the results we want,” Matsatsantsa goalkeeper Washington Arubi told the club’s media team.
“We are positive that we will turn the corner. This is what we are looking forward to in this upcoming game against Kaizer Chiefs.”
He said it’s a crucial game for both teams.
“We are coming from losses. Both of us are wounded. The team that will put in more effort is the one that will win.”
The reverse fixture between the two sides ended with SuperSport edging Chiefs 1-0 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in September 2023.
They are now back in Polokwane for another date but this time both teams are ravaged by injury.
