A Kenyan man who was unable to have children shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself after she fell pregnant.
Johnathan Mukindi, 42, an insurance salesman, did not tell his wife, Philomena Njeri, 30, that he had become infertile.
He had two children from another relationship, while Njeri was desperate for a family.
After she fell pregnant, Mukindi grew enraged and kicked Njeri, his wife of six years, out of the house.
According to the Star newspaper, when Njeri became pregnant Mukindi knew she had a secret lover, and he couldn’t live with the betrayal.
After two months he claimed he wanted to reconcile and invited her for dinner. The next morning, they were found dead in the house in Kiambu.
According to the police report, Mukundi, a licensed gun holder, shot his wife three times in the head on Tuesday with a Glock pistol before turning the weapon on himself.
Mukundi made money by buying vehicles that had been written off and selling the spare parts, a friend said. The spare parts business was being run by Njeri.
One friend told the newspaper that trouble started when Mukundi discovered that Njeri had an affair with one of her workers at the spare parts shop.
“Mukundi had opened the shop for his wife who then secretly opened another shop for her secret lover in the same area,” he said.
Another neighbour said Mukundi was furious when he discovered his wife was pregnant. He never told her he couldn’t have any more children.
