IFP hits back at MK over Premier Ntuli removal motion

By Celani Sikhakhane

  • The IFP calls the motion baseless and says the premier brought one hundred billion rand in investment to the province.
  • The EFF refused to support the motion after fighting with Jacob Zuma’s party and joining the unity government in uMkhanyakude.

The fight for control of KwaZulu-Natal is getting ugly.

The Inkatha Freedom Party has told Jacob Zuma’s MK Party to stop playing games and focus on real problems.

The MK Party wants to remove Premier Thami Ntuli through a motion of no confidence on Monday. They claim he has failed to create jobs and lied about a trip to New York.

But the IFP is fighting back.

They say the motion is a waste of time. Instead of attacking Ntuli, the IFP says the MK Party should explain why South Africans are stuck in Russia.

The party claims these people were misled into going to war by Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, under the false pretence of job training.

“The MK Party must prioritise pressing issues of its own making,” the IFP said.

They want the MK Party to bring those people home safely.

The IFP leaders met in Durban on Monday to back Premier Ntuli. They say he has already brought R100-billion in investment to the province.

The motion to remove him looks likely to fail.

The parties working together in the provincial government – the IFP, ANC, DA, and NFP – have 41 seats combined. The MK Party only has 37 seats.

Even the EFF is refusing to help Zuma’s party.

Julius Malema’s fighters have turned their backs on the MK Party after their relationship turned sour. The EFF has even joined forces with the IFP and ANC in uMkhanyakude to get a deputy mayor position.

The MK Party has asked for a secret ballot, but the numbers are against them.
