- Man shoots ex-girlfriend at tavern, then goes home and kills sleeping wife before fleeing in family car in Lusikisiki.
- The incident happened in the same village where 18 people were killed in September 2024 during a traditional ceremony, with six men currently on trial.
Two women were shot and killed in Ngobozana village in Lusikisiki in the early hours of Tuesday.
Eastern Cape Police Spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said the suspect, a 42-year-old man, is alleged to have shot and killed his 49-year-old wife and 22-year-old ex-girlfriend in the early hours of Tuesday, between 01:00 and 01:30.
“According to reports, the suspect first shot his ex-girlfriend at a tavern in Chithwayo locality, Ngobozana A/A, before proceeding to his home in Unity Park, Ngobozana, where he allegedly shot his wife while she was asleep.”
“The suspect then fled the scene in the family’s vehicle, which was discovered abandoned by the police,” said Gantana.
She said the motive for the killings remains unknown at this stage.
Police are appealing to anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to contact Lusikisiki Detectives Head, Colonel Siyabulela Kufa, at 082 302 5118, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or the nearest police station.
Ngobozana village made headlines in September 2024 after 18 people, mostly extended family and friends, were killed at the Ngobozana village homesteads of sisters Mary Sinqina and Nancy Sinqina-Matu.
They had gathered to prepare for a traditional ceremony marking the end of mourning for their sister, Nomnikelo Sinqina, 61, and niece, Zinzi Sinqina-Jawuse, 31, who were killed in August 2023.
Six men are currently on trial in the Mthatha High Court, sitting in Lusikisiki.
