The rural village of Dididi outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo has been described as the Canaan of our modern times.
This year, the village has twice been blessed with hundreds of mysterious chickens that villagers feasted on. And now, hundreds of cool drinks have inexplicably appeared in the village.
As they say, good food needs a good wash down, and that is exactly what Dididi has received.
After the chicken feasts which first put the village into the spotlight, manna fell again on the village, after hundreds of cold drinks were found at the local graveyard.
The mysterious soft beverages that were strewn around the cemetery were discovered by a cattle herder, who happened to pass by on Wednesday.
The news has sent shockwaves through the community, which is still trying to come to terms with their previous two windfalls of mysterious chickens.
And just like on those occasions, residents did not waste their time.
As soon as the news spread, residents rushed there to find that most had already been taken.
Many of the hopefuls came back disappointed as there were not enough drinks for everyone.
Now, questions are being raised among locals as to why these mysterious happenings keep happening in their village.
Local Matodzi Mudau said the village was still in shock following these miraculous appearances, but she has remained sceptical.
“Which other village has experienced what we are seeing here? This calls for intervention, as we do not know the intentions of those who brought these things here,” she said.
Dr Alunamutwe Randitsheni, a well-known theologian and academic, said the mysteries must not be taken for granted as “Africa has its own science.”
“The chickens and cool drinks could be having evil intentions and could be a curse on people. The chief and his subjects should sit down and decide what to do, he said.
Traditional healer Matamba Mamuremi of the Vhangona Indeginous Health Practitioners said traditional leaders were supposed to have performed a ritual immediately after the first appearance of mysterious chickens.
“In the olden days there used to be special days for rituals in a village” he said.
