Norman Dilley from Sandton, Gauteng, is making waves internationally with his online business, which sells traditional Zulu and Ndebele-inspired clothing.
His brand “House of Zulu SA” is becoming increasingly popular in the United Kingdom and the United States, especially during Heritage Month, as South Africans abroad and others buy his African-inspired outfits.
Dilley started the business as a hobby because he loves designing clothes.
“The idea of creating T-shirts came to me in September 2021. It took time, but I was determined,” he said.
He launched his website in May 2024, quickly selling more than half the 100 T-shirts he had made.
Seeing this success, Dilley developed his brand to include dresses for women, which have also been well received.
He plans to release a footwear collection in 2025.
“I credit my achievements to God’s grace and the unwavering support from my partner, who has been by my side throughout the entire process,” he said.
He makes all his products from his home in Sandton and sells them online.
Dilley is surprised by how much South Africans living abroad appreciate their cultural heritage and love his designs.
He now works longer hours to meet the growing nationwide and global demand.
Recently, he received large orders from a fitness group in Bryanston and private companies buying uniforms for their staff.
He also plans to visit KwaZulu-Natal for the Reed Dance and the King Shaka commemoration to promote his business further.
