Eleven people have been killed in an accident in Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday morning in a gruesome, horror crash involving three trucks and a minibus taxi on the R612 at around 8am.
Robert McKenzie, the KZN Emergency Services spokesperson said: “Eleven people have sustained fatal injuries in this crash. Paramedics have treated 12 patients at the scene, many of them in critical condition.”
Initially, nine people had died at the scene and the death toll later increased to 11.
McKenzie continued to say that the cause of the accident was still unclear with a police investigation underway.
The road was still closed at around 2pm on Thursday with traffic on the R612 having to be diverted.
