A Home Affairs official arrested on 24 November at her home in Randfontein’s Toekomsrus, was re-arrested on Friday.
On Friday she appeared alongside her two co-accused and an alleged bogus Doctor Ncube whom she helped to get a South African identity document.
Charlotte Bens was initially arrested in connection with aiding dozens of foreign nationals to acquire documents she authorised at the Randfontein Home Affairs.
On Friday she was arrested after police in Witbank, Mpumalanga linked her to other cases where she colluded with a female Home Affairs official in Witbank to authorise and issue documents to other people in that province.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the latest arrest.
“She was appearing in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday when police in Mpumalanga who had been looking for her received information of her whereabouts,” said Colonel Masondo.
Masondo said Bens was released on bail on 3 November, but on Friday she joined the other accused colleagues and the bogus doctor.
Soon after the court process at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court where she appeared with the alleged fake doctor Ncube and her other two Home Affairs officials, Bens was arrested again.
Scrolla.Africa sources close to the case, have learned that Bens and two other officials (from Randfontein) helped over 370 people acquire IDs fraudulently at the Randfontein Home Affairs department.
In the Mpumalanga case, a woman with one child was alarmed that she had two more children registered with her as the mother, according to the Home Affairs system.
Her shock led to probing by officials.
Investigations revealed that Bens and her co-accused in Witbank had authorised the documents.
This prompted the authorities to start investigating and looking for Bens. When they heard that she was appearing in court on Friday, police arrested her just as she walked out of the court.
The bogus doctor and two other Home Affairs officials remained in custody. They will appear in court again on Friday for another bail application bid.
These cases started when an alleged fake doctor who had been dubbed the Love Doctor, targeted women. He represented himself as a doctor and pharmacist named Dr Kingsley Chele. He sometimes calls himself Dr KJ Ncube.
For a number of years, the bogus doctor has swindled and defrauded several people, especially women in the health sector.
He even has children with some of the women who fell victim to his tricks.
He is facing multiple charges of fraud and escaping from lawful custody after the bogus doctor escaped from police custody twice this year alone!
