Metro officer Neo Sepuru was coming home in his own vehicle after a departmental soccer match but he never made it into his house.
According to Metro police spokesman Xolani Fihla, officer Sepuru was hijacked by suspects who had just robbed another vehicle in the same area.
Sepuru was allegedly stripped, and then “shot twice from behind. He sustained fatal wounds to his left upper body and the back of his neck,” said Fihla.
The hijacked vehicle was found abandoned and set alight at Mbatha and Dlamini streets in Jabulani not far from where officers found Sepuru.
Fihla said a case of murder has been opened at Jabulani SAPS for further investigation.
He said the suspects are still at large.
“Anybody with information regarding this brutal murder must please contact the national crime stop number 08600 10111. Callers may remain anonymous,” said Fihla.
