Police in Tshwane got a call from a woman in distress on Tuesday. She told them she was a helper in Cullinan and had been badly beaten up by burglars, who had stolen many of her employer’s belongings.
But the cops didn’t buy her story for a second – and they were right.
The house help who is originally from Lesotho, had planned the entire thing. She organised for her boyfriend and their four accomplices to rob the rich household she worked in.
They would have to beat her up so as not to draw suspicion from the police.
Together, the burglars stole almost R500,000 worth of items, including electrical kitchen appliances, designer clothes, liquor, laptops, and even hunting rifles and ammunition.
By Wednesday Cullinan police had all six suspects behind bars. Police spokesperson Sergeant Connie Moganedi said that the 29-year-old helper story didn’t hold up under questioning.
She confessed to the crime, and led the police to her boyfriend’s house in Tembisa, where they discovered several of the missing items.
“The joint operation started immediately after the house robbery where the helper reported to have been robbed by unknown suspects who allegedly came into a plot with a truck, ransacked the premises and got away with properties estimated at R450,000,” said Sergeant Moganedi.
All six suspects will soon appear at Cullinan magistrates court facing charges of house robbery.
